Friends, I have found something wonderful!

I have a book buying problem, and it gets to be even more expensive than usual when those books are imported from France.

I have been eyeing this book about Gregor Mendel for a while, called Le jardinier de l’hérédité by Catherine Bousquet. It is a historical fiction biography for kids.

With all the money I’ve spent on French books this year, I just couldn’t justify buying it when my public library already has a Gregor Mendel book in English (Gregor Mendel: The Friar Who Grew Peas by Cheryl Bardoe).

But then I discovered you can get the book for free from archive.org! All you have to do is sign-in and click the “borrow” button on top. Then I was able to look at the entire book. What a happy find!

It looks like the “Belles Vies” series of books is now out of print, because it doesn’t come up on the website of l’école des loisirs. Too bad, everything I like is out of print! There are a few available still from Les Libraires.
